Default ap2 retainers

Ok so i want to install the ap2 retainers on my ap1 but i am not comfortable doing this myself. Is this something ur everyday mechanic can safely do? Or can a honda dealership do it?

If you're comfortable with valve adjustments and brake work, then you can do this. Get the torque specs from the service manual. Buy the right tool below, and use a quality torque wrench.

The amount you'll spend on paying a honda tech, you could own the tools for way less. If you're close to new york, PM Billman's shop.

good luck and be brave.

This is great advice. I second the part about buying a quality torque wrench. Please also ensure that it's the right size. This is the result.

Good luck. Having the right tool for the job makes a world of a difference.
  • The 10mm Valve adjustment tool in this guide is worth the money.
  • The retainer removal tool in this guide is also worth the money.

My Advice:
  • Do not rush
  • Download or buy a HELMs manual
  • purchase proper tools
  • Allocate enough time (preferably during day light hours)
  • Buy one of those magnets on a stick
  • Read multiple guides and look at multiple images from each one before attempting
  • Print out a couple of the images for reference or use your phone/tablet/laptop
  • If you're not sure about something; look it up in the manual, look at the guide, or come on the forums and ask someone. Billman helped me out the day I was doing mine. I am certain that if someone sees you assistance they will quickly help.
  • Invite a friend over that has done this before.

It is easy. I just did mine the other day. It took about an hour. I did buy the $11 valve adjust tool off Amazon. It worked great. I also would recommend the keeper tool Lis36200. Easiest tool for removing and installing keepers.

Amazon, Ebay, or a local parts store.

ScienceOfSpeed said its about a $300.00 job. Parts and labor I think. Not bad. I think valve-adjustment was included

300 sounds right on the money. 150 for parts and 75/hr for labor. 2 hr job. I would take it to them of you dont want to do it yourself.
