I'm going to be doing this in about a week's time when my shift boot comes. So how different is this procedure on an AP1? Any other instructions?

Im struggling to remove the shift knob. I've loosened the lock nut but i still cannot take the knob off easily. i dont want to use to much force incase i damage the shifter somehow. Any ideas would be appreciated as the stock shift knob has faded and really degrades the appearance of the interior.

Thanks in advance

It sounds like someone may put loctite on the thread. I might try holding the shift lever with vise grips and try turning the knob with channel locks - wrapping rags around them to keep from scratching things
