Default AP2 tranny fluid

I'm at the point where I need to replace the fluid in my tranny. It seems that the best solution is the GM sychromesh friction modified fluid. However, I remember hearing somewhere that this was not good for the AP2's because of the carbonfiber sychros. Has anybody else heard about that or know of a fluid that better suits the AP2? Also, has anybody heard about tranny fluid and carbon synchros having problems with other brands?

Why not just use the Honda brand? You aren't getting any grinds with it now are you?

Not so much. I still get the 2nd gear grind every now and then. That drives me nuts. I heard the friction modified helps that a bit and the shifts feel smoother than with the stock fluid. I don't want it though if my synchros are going to dissolve in it or something though.

How many miles? Maybe you could just try flushing with the OEM fluid and see if that helps... IIRC, it's like $3.50 a bottle.

I used to use the Honda MT90, but have since switched to GMSMFM as I still got the 2nd gear grind after a few hundred miles.

Posted this a few weeks ago. It covers Amsoil MTF (specifically related to CF synchros), GMSMFM and others.

Part of my first post is a quote directly from Amsoil relating to CF synchros.

I hope this helps.

I used honda fluid for the first year then switched to the gm. I change every 7k-8k and I really didn't feel a big difference, but someone else drove my car with an 04 commented how much smoother mine felt compared to his. I've used GM for the last 14k miles
