Default AP2 Transmission Reduction Gear

So... I been searching on the forums a lot regarding AP2 vs AP1 transmission. From my understanding, their gear ratios are exactly the same for all the gears except for the reduction gear which gives the AP2 a shorter 1-4 (correct me if im wrong). Question is.... is it possible to just change an AP2 reduction gear into the AP1 transmission? I read it before on the forums but can't seem to find the thread to save my life.

I have an AP1 right now and would really like the AP2 transmission in it but can't justify the cost since mine still shifts like butter.

If I were you I would just get 4.56's or 4.77 rear diff gears and call it a day. Do some research on it and you'll find tons of information.

The ap2 primary gear reduction is noticeable but not very extreme, its equivalent to putting a 4.20 rear final drive in, with my calculations. And no the 5th and 6th gears are still more over driven then the 5/6 in ap1. So there is quite a spread difference in the ap2 trans when you factor in the primary reduction gear. I don't know if the ap1 trans can be modified. I just switched over to ta ap2 trans when the ap1 took a dump.

So 1-4th would be a shorter/closer but not that much while the 5-6th would feel longer?

On paper it doesn't look like a big difference, but my car felt incredibly different after the swap.

It's arguably the best mod I've done to the car to date.

1-5 are shorter in the ap2 trans (you have to figure in the reduction ratio with all gears)

5th is barely shorter, not taller.

6th is taller.

Yes as long as you change both, you can build a hybrid trans.

Thanks! Thats actually what I am looking for, shorter gears except maintain 6th or make it longer since I am always on the freeway. Gears might be too much for me at the moment. So what do you mean by change both?

Reduction gear is two part:

Drive gear
driven gear (part of the driven tailshaft)

Bringing this back from the dead

Has anyone tried ap2 transmission with longer final drive (excuse my knowledge of gearing and transmissions). My hope is to make gears 1-5 the same/similar to Ap1 transmission, but lower RPMs at highway speeds in 6th gear?
