Backlash guage position? Answered
Since there is alot of rear diff Q&A here is a couple of links I came across while searching that I thought some of the members here can use.
The first link is just an write up by Turbo magazine on the Kia gears in an S2000 as well as pics of the install.
The second one is a video of how to set backlash( not on an s2000 but is a excellent how to video) I always wondered what was the backlash guage postioned on the ring gear and which rotation you measured it with. The video answered that and more for me to better understand backlash settings.

I just checked my rear because I will be putting a solid distance spacer in. Interesting that the wear pattern was perfect and the backlash was right at 32 thousandths but the pinion has no preload. I am wondering since I have to obtain the measurements on the crush distance spacer before ordering the solid sleeve should I put preload on the original crush sleeve or place a new one in and get the specs off that one?
Anyone with diff knowlege please chime in.
