Default bad clutch or bad trans?!?

So this has been going on for a little while and I am not sure if I might need a new clutch or god forbid my trans is going. While I am not a complete dumbass when it comes to cars I am just not sure. Here is the run down, when going through the gears hard there is a delay when I shift into the next gear. There is no crisp shift, it feels like the car is struggling to grab the next gear and will hover in the high rpm's until it catches (kind of feels like when you have wheel spin but this is not the case as it does it all the way to 5th). It does not do this when shifting even driving mildly only when driving hard. The car only has 20K on it, I have only put the last 5k on it and that has been in the past two months due to driving it home from across the country. I am not sure if the previous owner burnt out the clutch or what, it just does not feel right at all.

I'm having the same problem with my 02. Just replaced brand new clutch and feels as if the clutch is slipping. Not driving it hard regular daily driving feels like the gear wont catch and i can barely drive. Putting it in first gear it struggles to get to 10mph with it shooting for 4rpm+. This happens throughout all the gears and i really have to baby it to get to higher speeds. I've noticed when weather was colder this issue did not occur until the car warmed up, any ideas?

While this is off topic - did you get the clutch changed at a shop? Its likely you didnt break it in properly or the shop didnt clean the PP/got grease on the clutch plate. Also possible that its an improperly adjusted clutch pedal. I doubt they'd put in a new slave cylinder (new slave has the CDV) into your car for just a clutch change.

Personally if it were me, id remove the CDV all together, permanently. This would be one way to check the severity of the clutch issue/trouble shooting with very minimal work as well. Look up a DIY on it.

00-03 had no CDV just fyi.

Sounds pretty severe. Could be a bad install or contaminated friction disk. First thing to verify is that there is free play on the clutch pedal.
