filling up with regular is fine it won't do anything to your car.....your brother took your car out...filled it up with 87 and redlined 1-4....and thats where the misfires came from..and maybe even the cel too

if you put 87 in your car and if you redline 1-4 would it cause detonation?

Yes, do not drive the car. Flashing CEL means serious engine problem.

In your case of having known misfires when the CEL blinks this means that it is receiving misfire data and setting "Temporary codes" and if it sees a certain amount within a small period of time then it decides to set "permanent codes" which it has obviously done. Blinking light does not always mean WW3 is about to hit lol but it is merely warning you to be cautious (i.e. listen for loud noises, vibrations etc...).

I would just drive it "nicely" until most of it is gone (1/4 tank or less) and just put your highest octane in it. You may need to run it a bit and clear the CEL, and drive it again and see if they set. If they do I would take it to a GOOD Honda mechanic.

Also as a side note, if it has 44k on it and never had a valve adjust that you know of, get it done. Look at the recent misfire thread as I posted some advice there also. GL!

thats pretty damn good mileage for a 2000!!! i got mines a couple months ago with 60k and thought THAT was good... but you certainly beat me... but then again, i haven't had a cel light yet... hope the best for you! sucks that you had to have an unfortunate first experience...
