Default Bad leakdown test results

Ugh I have had a horrible string of bad luck recently. First I got rear ended at ~45mph while sitting still at a red light. Three months of chiropractic, physical therapy, and prescription meds later I get my car back and the CEL is on and body panel fitment is awful. It drives like ASS. I took my car to the dealer where they determined that the CEL was a cylinder misfire code on cylinders 1, 2, and 3. Did a leakdown test and got 6%, 16%, 8%, and 20% off. Jesus. Determined the spark plugs were worn, replaced them and did a carbon blast. Got it down to 6%, 8%, 8%, and 18%. Determined that cylinder 4 is leaking through exhaust valve.

I've babied the crap out of this car, it's never been launched, never been misshifted or overrevved, never been held in VTEC for a prolonged period of time.

The shop has suggested I pick up the car and see how it feels. Anybody have any idea how much work it is to remove the cylinder head and replace an exhaust valve & retainer?

I'm so frustrated I'm tempted to dump the car and drive a fricken volvo for the rest of my life.

You'll need to have all the valve seats and valve faces reground when the cylinder head is off. Figure 10-12 hours of labor to have a shop do it. You'll also need a headgasket, intake and exhaust gaskets, valve stem seals, oil, filter and coolant.

Yikes. Thanks guys.

The weird thing is that I was rear ended -- I have no idea why this suddenly popped up while the car was in the shop...

hmmm

would be good if you did a leakdown and could prove the car was sound before the monkeys got a hold of it

you think you have issues now. A Volvo would make this seem like a trip to the park

Does the ECU record overrevs in our cars? The body shop had the car for 3 months and put ~20ish miles on it...

There is your problem. Some monkey probably cold started your car, revved the shit out of it, and now you will be paying for damages. Good Luck

OK this makes no sense at all.... you got rear ended in an 02 S @ 45 mph and the insurance repaired it? Was it a motorcycle that rear ended you? The car would be completely totalled if any normal car hit you...
