Default Bad O2 Sensor...

Check engine light came on last night. Took it to the dealership this morning to have the code read. It tuns out it's a "bad" O2 sensor. Dealership said it would be OK to continue driving, but that the car is probably running in safe mode, running rich. I'm waiting on a quote for the sensor. The dealership has initially told me it might take up to 2 weeks for the new sensor to be delivered.

Expect around $200... I'm not sure why they have gone up (I remember them around $130) but that's what the ones in the newer Hondas run. I'd lobby them for a free unit, there's NO good reason one should fail under 100k miles, at least not in a Honda. If you've been running excessively rich (you have a lot of breathing mods) you may have fouled it yourself.

Don't spend more than a half hour in labor charges- it only takes less than 10 minutes to swap it out.

Yeah, the service rep guessed that it might be the AFR that "caused" it to go out. Is there anything I can do long-term if this were to keep happening?

If I recall correctly, your car is out of the new-car-warranty. But Federal law dictates a separate warranty on the emission systems. Maybe you can still get a new sensor as part of that warranty. Worth a shot methinks.

Stan is right.. I have had any number of intake/exhaust parts replaced (on another car) under the emissions warranty. FWIW, Majestic shows the MSRP on the sensor at 230 but sells for 172

Good info on the warranty, guys. If I do have to buy it, I'll definitely be giving my money to Trevor; I should pretty much have a credit account with him by now.

Yes, I have the SC. No dyno tune on the FPR, just the Comptech settings out of the box. I'm hoping to do S-AFC in the next month or so, I will have the car dyno tuned then.

Found out today that the 02 sensor is not covered under the emissions warranty. The part is $235 retail.
