Default bad window switch?

so i got a 2002 s2k about 4 days ago. i got it knowing the window switch (i think?) was bad. so let me explain the problem. if i hit the roof switch, only the drivers side window will go down. at one point or another, the passenger side will eventually go down or it may not. when i put the top back up, the drivers side window reacts like it should and the passenger will either drop or stay up depending on how it feels for the day. to get the passenger side window up, ill usually put the top on, turn off the ignition, turn the ignition back on and then it will go up on its own. any ideas?

The passenger window goes up just by turning the ignition off and back on? You're not pushing either window switch? In that case I think it's the convertible top module, which also controls the passenger window. The relay in the module must be sticking in order for the window to roll up on it's own. If one of the window switches was bad or sticking, the convertible top module would ignore it and roll the window down regardless of what the switch is doing.

Do you imagine an invisible hand comes out and presses the window switches when you put the top down? The window switch can't be at fault since its not invovled in any way in making the window go down in this scenario.

Think about it, when you press the window switch yourself, you are simply connecting 2 wires to allow electricity to pass to the window motor. When you put the top down, something else is used to pass electricity to pass to the window motor. Its those relays that Modifry mentions. They are like remote control switches.

So the question is, is it the relays used by the top to energize the window motor that is the problem, or the window motor itself? You didn't say if the window works perfectly every time when you use the window switch. Since you suspected the window switch, I'm guessing it also acts up in that scenario?

If the window has issues with both you pressing the window switch, and also when the top tries to put the window down, then its probably the window motor or a loose connection going to the window motor. If its only an issue when you try to use the top, then its probably your top relays like Modifry suggests.
