Good afternoon,
I've had my S2000 for a few months and have been recently looking over the wiring to make sure everything looks ok. Under the hood on the passengers side I have a few wiring looms that look to be deteriorated. Overall the wires themselves look good and I am planning to re-wrap them in new wire covers. I have one wire where the insulation has come off and there is bare wire sticking out. The wire is still connected but just barely.
I have attached a picture. It is one of many wires connected through a large bunch of wires and is connected to a plastic "blob". Would anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? Would wrapping it in electrical tape suffice? What is this "blob"?
Thank you for your reply. I will take a look. Is this pretty common to have wire looms deteriorate over time? All of the other wire looms/connectors look to be in good shape, its only the wraps in this section that look cracked. I plan on wrapping these to prevent any damage.
I have a small section of wiring loom like that - figured it was a rodent from the prior owner, but it's still a bit of a mystery to me. I left it alone as it's a small section on the drivers side, and the wires themselves appear to be fine.
I would say someone shaved the insulation off the wire for some reason, it is an rpm signal wire for idle rpms testing. Just tape it up and you'll be fine.
