Default Bearing Type Rattle...

Good Morning All,

I dropped off my '01 'S' over at the dealership last night to fix the following problems.

1. Replace cup holder (Doesn't open on it's own anymore).

2. I get this rattling sound when I let off the gas in 3rd from about 4100K and up. I hear it at other times, but it's not as noticeable. It sounds like a bearing or marbles in my engine.

Could this be the throw-out bearing?:confused

FYI, I have 9300 miles on my 'S'.

Has anyone heard of this before??

And what else would your vendor tell you?! Maybe that this is a limited production car and this is the last one, that it has a 3/36K warranty that covers everything (HA), that it will do 0-60 in 5.6, that the transmission is fine but over 50% of the owners can't operate it.

I have a great bridge I will sell you..

Dealer claims the rattle is coming from the heat shields. They adjusted them and all is well (so they say). I guess I'll find out when I get the car back tomorrow evening.

Good luck. The heat shields can make a lot of noise when loose, but that usually happens when they are not reinstalled properly after maintenance.. they don't just get loose. If we had a pool going I would bet against the dealer being right. Let us know.

FWIW, my MY2001 has made this "buzzing heat shield" sound while decelerating in third gear since I drove it off the lot, new. It's exactly as described in the TSB. I'm not ready for anyone to tear the car apart to fix this annoying noise just yet, though.

hmmm i have a 01 late model.
i dont have the 1-2 grind. however, i have a kinda of a buzzing sound around 4-6k rpm when the clutch is engaged and i let off on the throttle. but when i hear the buzzing sound, all i have to do is hold onto the stick and the sound goes away, kinda like a buzzing sound.. seems very weird to me, does anyone have this problem?

Well cdelena,

You would have won the pool!! I still have the problem. I need to bring it back again. The problem is that I'm dropping it off and picking it up from the dealer, after normal hours. I'm going to have to take some time off from work to bring it in again between 8 -5.

I have the buzzing sound as well, but that's not the complaint. It's a rattling sound, like ball bearings.

I'll keep you posted.

Well, I brought the my 'S' back to the dealer yesterday. They are not sure what the problem is, but they are now replacing the clutch. Honda is telling the dealer that the 'new' designed clutch is quieter and may fix the problem. The clutch won't be in until Friday, at the earliest.

Keep you posted.
