The best of the best of the best...
In my quest for performance add-ons I want to make sure I pick the right components with the "biggest bang for the buck". With this in mind I'd like to focus on an exhaust system to start with. I would like to get some input and some hard data about all the options available. My criteria in choosing an exhaust system would be: 1) Most gain in HP and torque regardless of price 2) Fit/Finish/Quality and 3) Sound. I've tried to do some homework and so far I've found like most everyone that there isn't a huge gain with any one system. Best case scenario I'd like to find some hard data to backup "seat of the pants" opinions. So far in posted dyno slips the RM Racing exhaust seems to have the best gains - correct me if I'm wrong. Remember, numbers talk, BS walks... Thanks in advance.
well it would appear that biggest bang for the buck would not be exhaust be intake. For about $60 you can get an intake such as JR and gain about 2-3hp. Of all the dyno I've seen, you get maybe that much if you are luck on the exhaust at 10 times the cost.
This is some info I am very interested in finding out also. So far there has been no exhaust to show a signifigant improvement in power. It's too bad too because it's hard for me to justify spending a lot of cash with only an improvement in sound.
Amuse seems to be one of the best. It boasts a 7 hp gain but is supposed to be pretty loud. It also is a single outlet exhaust.

I agree - with all the options out there I was hoping that I'd start to find some "hard numbers" for these things. I want to approach it as closely as possible from a purely scientific perspective: Best documented numbers wins - period. I'd also like to start other comparisons with all the performance parts so maybe we can put together the ultimate "recipe" for the best improved S2000... Aside from personal preference it would give newbies and other people in the community a documented approach to building the best S2000 aside from Supercharging, Turbo Charging or other invasive engine modifications.
In terms of bang for the buck available right now, about the only thing I can recommend is either the Mugen or the Spoon header. These will produce some extra midrange torque which is a nice thing to have, but top end power will still be the same as stock.
There isn't really anything else YET that would interest me.

Well it seems that this is garnering some interest. But I also can see that the topics are becoming varied. This thing started with the exhaust but I don't mind including other things. Here's the format that I'd like to use. Products will be replaced as better ones (documented) become available. Remember I'm looking for dyno numbers not somebody's marketing whitepaper...

Don't rely solely on peak HP numbers.
Some mods gain some peak HP up high but lose elsewhere. Others have no gain in peak HP (or even a slight loss), but gain down low or in the middle, and for many people would be a noticeable improvement.

there's a dyno chart out there for the JR intake floating around some where, you'll probably find it if you try the search... but the number was 2-3 across the band. Even though this number was more or less reproducable(not a real word....) the problem I have is that it's within the error of the dyno... so I donno if you can really count it.
