I hate to burst your bubble but as good as the stock intake is, it is not a CAI.

So judging by your results (good work btw), I consider the stock system a CAI.
Within 2*C was with the radmat and the intake tube insulation. Without the insulation, there was 5-10* hotter. Without the radmat, I was getting much higher temps all over.

if I am not mistaken you can Dyno a cai. check this last month's SCC they build a b16 hybrid and dyno the intake. If I am not mistaken I believe it made about 10-14 hp at the wheels.

The new infinitii G35 has a cold air intake set up that is similar to ours. It has two openings however which is weird. The intake comes up over the radiator. It looks pretty cool.

No offence, but I believe the Mugen CAI is the best intake out. Of course the price is not very suitable for most people, but I bought a S2000, and I believe that is deserves the best products money can buy.

Mugen intake is awesome but the price is just way too high. I prefer Spoon
or IDs (Import Development) air duct and they work good enough with a JR or Spoon filter.

Inbox type filter is always better for ON/OFF throttle response and this will be a good setup for circuit.

If one looks at Mugen's paper on S2000 tuning, Mugen:

Adopted a large diameter aluminum funnel of a racing type.

Adopted a racing filter of low pressure loss type.

Adopted an air box design of smooth configuration made of carbon fiber.
Induction of cold air:
It is designed to induct outside air from behind the license plate in order to directly induct the outside air to the air box. There will also be a useful effect from the ram pressure air flow which directly hits the induction mouth of the air box if the license plate were removed during the sports running.
Running JR filter with Spoon CAI accomplishes many of Mugen's goals, imo.

The JR filter has an integrated funnel with low restriction filter element.

The Spoon CAI brings in outside air with ram pressure air flow. The narrowing of the Spoon snorkel has to be taken into consideration, but the size of snorkel opening may counteract this at speed.
Mugen's comments regarding the stock system:

"Performance of standard air box and filter:

High performance filter with a only slight loss of pressure is adopted.

As a result of measuring the filter
