Big Oil Leak, Help
Hey all,
I just traded my Prelude Type SH on a sweet black S2000 with 10,000 miles. Unfortunately tonight.. my first day with the car.. somehow started spewing oil out of the passenger side of the motor.. after quickly pulling over and shutting the car down.. (luckily no warning lights came on and the dip stick still showed oil..)
It's dark out tonight, so I couldn't tell exactly what, but my guess is the oil filter was not put on tight.
Fortunately, I called the Honda dealership and got ahold of my salesman and he left me a dealer car to use for tomorrow and he sent a rollback to pickup my S.
So my question.. are these cars maintenance nightmares? Has anyone had something similar happen? My Prelude was rockin and reliable as ever, I'm hoping this is just something simple.. Maybe you guys can help me feel better about not havin my new ride in the driveway on the first night..
Looking forward to talking to some cool people with S2000's..

It's not the car. It's the numbnuts mechanic most dealers assign to doing the work. We've heard of oil filters that were put on with the old gasket still on the engine, oil fill caps that are left sitting on top of the valve cover, drain bolts that were never tightened and 6 qts of oil put in when the car only take 5.5. If you have the dealer do the maintenance, you MUST check their work BEFORE you drive off the lot.
I'm glad to hear you don't think it's the car. Hopefully they will get everything straightened out today and cleanup the mess that I now have under the hood because it was immaculate before this happened.

Yeah I did a good inspection over the three days I actually looked at the car.. but didn't think to check how tight the oil filter was... sheesh.
Any how.. yeah.. I always keep a good eye on fluids.. did the same with the Prelude and she never gave me a bit of a fuss.. I've had this car for two days now and I'm totally in love with it...
I'm glad I came across this community and look forward to talking or maybe even meeting some of the people here at cruises and shows...
Thanks again for the advice..

Marc,
You'll find that you'll receive plenty of advise, but be sure to use the SEARCH function to see if the question has already been asked. Many of us have been around since the S2000's inception and often see the same series of questions being asked by new owners.
I'm glad that this problem got resolved for you. Now you can go out and 'carefuly' enjoy this wonderful car. There are also regional forums on the S2KI site that will get you in contact with the S2k group in your area. Be sure and join in on some of their gatherings.
