Default Black smoke

i just finished putting on my comptech header yesterday and i went out to eat afterwards then on the way to my buddies house i punched it. he was behind me and saw puffs of black smoke at every shift and it was night. Which kinda concerned me since it mustve been quite a bit since it was so dark out. he told me i might need a tune up or im burning oil which i thought ap1s consumed oil anyways so i should be alright?

Any thought would help

My mods include:
k&n fipk
Comptech header
5zigen single

Check for leaks under the hood, and if you're really worried do a leakdown. Black smoke can indicate a rich mixture though. Was it short puffs at and above vtec? BTW: AP1's don't burn enough oil to blow clouds.

Have you done a ECU reset after the header install?

'do you usually lug around at 2K-3K rpm? If you do, you might have built up a bunch of carbon that was being spat out when you got on it?

That's what he means. You shift quite low.

That could be the reason then! Lots of carbon builds up because youre running rich, while driving at those RPMS. when you get on it, the carbon that builds up on your exhaust blows out-> 'black smoke'
