Blank Instrument Cluster with other issues
All,
I started my '05 AP-2 up yesterday after it sitting dormant in the garage for almost 2 weeks. Found the instrument cluster totally dark, the wipers sweeping despite the control stalk in the "OFF" position, and the Rear Defrost and Cruise Control Indicator lights illuminated regardless of their switch positions. has anyone else experienced this, and what was your fix?
Possibility this is a symptom of a weak battery? After shutting off the engine and saying few naughty words, checked the battery to find it showing 12.5 volts and weak on the load. I tried charging the battery, but it is not holding the charge.
Thanks in advance!
John

Yeah, sounds like a battery, on its way out.

12.5vDC should be fine unless it's just a surface charge which a battery charger will provide in a very short period of time. Charging a depleted battery fully is a 12 hour job. Followed by at least 12 hours of rest (no charge or discharge) and measuring the voltage. If it's not 12.6vDC the battery is bad.
Even if the voltage checks the battery may not supply the amps necessary. My 12.6vDC battery would not start my car last August. Battery load tester is at every auto-zone store. A new proper size battery was available at the one I stopped at then.

Battery was the culprit! $129 from AutoZone, problem cured.
Interesting that even though the old battery measured 12.5 vDC, and showed only 300 Amps on my load meter, it would crank and start the engine, yet the instrument cluster remained dark with the wipers running uncommandedly. I was afraid a control module might have been fried.
