Default Blow-by

So I decided to install Carbing oil catch can because I was have the blow by. I also had a piggy back and tune performed prior to going out on the track with the oil catch.

So after a couple of laps, I started blowing the worst blue smoke on turns (any) and hard braking. I pulled off and noticed that the oil can was completely filled!!!! After 2 laps.

I disconnected the catch can and still got blow by, bad. I went back to stock ecu and no catch can and was like the old days.

Then went to catch can with stock ecu and filled the can after 20 min.....

Can some one HELP.

TIA

How can a tune affect that though? You sure you got the catch can connected properly? What was done in your tune?

It was with the ultimate. AFR adjusted to 13. Dropped VTEC down to 4500. Not certain if timing was adjusted??

I was wondering if something blew?? But the smoke isnt constant. With the tune I was puttering a bit and when I hooked up the stock ECU it ran fine.

It is crazy how much oil is trapping in the can......something wrong with my PCV???

My install of the can went like this: I pulled the tube connecting the PCV and intake manifold. I have a tube going from the PCV to the oil can then a tube from the oil can to the intake.

how much oil does the can catch during street driving?

do you have a modified or aftermarket valve cover?

the pcv valve isn't responsible for keeping oil out, although it can to some degree...

are you overfilling on oil?

Time for a compression check, and leak down. In order to have that much blow-by it'd either have to be a freshly built motor ran hard, (obviously not your car) or some piston rings in a cylinder or two decided to give up. But I guess that still doesn't explain why the problem was fixed momentarily when you switched back to the stock ecu. Do you have a wideband hooked up to your car at all times or just for tuning purposes?

I dont really street drive so hard to say. I just drive it to the track and back.

Valve cover is stock and the PCV is about 35,000 miles on it. I can start by changing that.

What is interesting is that when I went back to stock ECU with the catch can hooked up I had a full can at the end of the 20 min run. But with the catch can disconnected I didnt get any blow by with the stock ecu but did get blow by with the piggyback hooked up and no oil can.

I am thinking something is wrong with the tune?? Hope it didnt toast my engine.

As suggested by NoTork I may have to do a compression check to put my mind at ease or bring tears to my eyes.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. An aggressive or faulty tune can cause things to get too hot down there and cause a few rings to pack their bags and head for Antarctica.

4500 is pretty low, but its not the cause of this... Ive seen plenty of AP1's that set there vtec that low and have no problems.

Some of the guys here are telling me to fill a catch can after one session is normal.

WOW that is a lot of oil trapping in the can....what I dont understand is why is that much oil filling the can on a track that I never had blow by anyways???

What do you guys do with the oil....recycle it into the engine??
