Default Blue smoke

Sooo usually when my car is cold, and I am leaving my neighborhood or something, I will clutch it when pulling up to my neighborhood exit, and just notice a ploom of blue smoke just filtering out of my exhaust pipe. I have a single exhaust and test pipe if that makes a difference, but I'm just wondering if this is cause for concern. My friend, who is a technician, said it could possibly be bad valve stem seals and that's why it's smoking when the car is still a smidgen on the cold side. I have 103k miles as well. Any thoughts, suggestions? Or possible repairs and prices?

^ not unheard off.... probably rings, as it heats up the tolerance tightens and it's fine again. I'd just drive it. Not only that but even perfect condition car w/ a test pipe will give a little smoke off when cold.

If it's a lot do a compression/leak down test.

smoke caused by a test pipe isn't blue, its going to be black, unburnt fuel burning in the exhaust.

blue smoke=indicative of burning oil somewhere. If you're not in VTEC, you shouldn't be burning oil. I'd get a compression and leakdown test done.

I'd agree about the smoke color, how sure are you that it's blue? are you seeing this out of your rear view mirror?

I figure your rings are a little worn and your burning a little oil prolly no biggy but I'd just check it out.

my best indication that it's oil smoke vs. water is 1) it's bluish/white
2) It lingers, doesn't evaporate.

^ ok that sounds bad. "bombarded"

Go do a compression test ASAP and post the numbers in this thread please. To keep things simple and comparable KEEP IT FLOORED WHILE TESTING... have the motor at least a little warm, make sure all plugs are out during the test and pull the fuse for the fuel pump. crank it over 4 times and then test the next cylinder.

Cylinder #1 < hopefully you see around 200-228 psi on each.

maybe bombarded is the wrong word lol. it's not like "OH MY GOD it's smoking" but its like "hey why is it smoking like that"

i'll see what i can do about getting a compression test done tho
