Default Brake Cooling Ducts...

Guys,

Has anyone attempted to open the brake ducts and route some tubing to the rotors to enhance cooling?

I'm thinking about giving it a try, any suggestions?

I've been looking into the same thing. My plan is to use the air flow system sold by one of the site sponsors along with some aluminum flexible duct (dryer vent) and some zip ties. I know it is a little ghetto but it should work. I am still trying to find a way to cool the rears but I have seen plastic/rubber scoops mounted under the car to funnel the air towards the brakes. I don't know how turbulent the air is in the wheel well but I would assume that any fresh air going into that area would help.

yes, its been done. and there are Jet's carbon fiber ducts to fit through those faux ducts. but... there are a few alternatives for the front, and one solution for the rear. if you are interested, be patient over the next month and I'll let you know then.

yep, i did mine the hack way but it makes a difference

jets is not worth the money because it runs the air onto the tire and nowhere else. but it does look cool.

i used 3" tubing from pegasusracing and using a hole saw cut circular holes where the faux ducts are. the height of those things is just over 3" so it fits perfect. i forgot what i used to keep thehoses on, but some combo of goop (maybe silicone) and zip ties.

i then cut a hole in the fenderwell trim using the same holesaw and attached the hoses to the trim using zipties. i placed the hole as far inward in the car as possible.

while this doesnt take air to the hub, it was the quickest thing i can thnk of. i am working on a custom kit with bmw guys that have a very slick setup for the m3s that will get the air to the rotors center.

cheers,
bassem

I did mine quite awhile ago but the pics disappeared with PhotoPoint. The splash shields have vents to the eye of the rotor (although they can be enlarged a bit), so I just bolted an aluminum drain fixture over them to accept the tubing. Used some Coastal grills on the front bumper to keep the leaves and insects out. Works great.
