Default Brake Fluid

What is the best DOT 4 fluid to use in the S2K?

Jimmy, don't know why no one replied to your post. I don't know the answer either, but realize that you are asking for an opinion. And as the saying goes...everybody's got one. Do a search for "brake fluid" or "DOT 4" or something and you will find lots of threads with a wide variety of opinions and I am sure you will find the answer you seek...

What's your reason for going to DOT 4? Are you planning to take your car to the track, autocross, or just street use?

As I understand it, the primary tradeoffs for brake fluid are cost, lifespan (mainly moisture absorption), and heat resistance (dry and wet boiling points). For street use the stock DOT 3 stuff is cheap, will last for what, two years? without a change, and won't boil unless you drag your brakes down a mountain.

I don't think autocross courses typically have enough hard braking to boil the stock fluid, but I'm sure the experienced cone-dodgers will chime in; I do think many of them use DOT 4 stuff, though.

If you're going to the track, I've found that Ate SuperBlue and Motul RBF 600 are reasonably priced (~$15), will last for six months or so, and hold up pretty well to track use. You can pay a lot more for stuff with higher boiling points, but I believe it will only last a short time.

ATE Super Blue seems to work fine ....... good compromise between a high enough boiling point w/o being too hygroscopic.
