Default Brake Job Scam?

Hey All!
I just got a call from the dealer and they say the front brakes are low which is fine. But they say that on a s2000 you have to resurface the rotors and it's $250 total. Sounds like B.S. to me. Have you guys heard this?

resurfacing yes. 250, no. you do need to resurface the rotor after some brake pad changes.

O'Reilly resurfaces/turns rotors for $10 each. Take of the wheel and caliper (5 lugs/2 bolts) and you are $230 richer

However, understand that the dealership will NOT just change out your pads without resurfacing your rotors. It's not worth it to them to skip it. If you think your rotors are fineand don't want the rotors resurfaced then change out the brake pads yourself. If you don't like the pricing at the dealer, take it to an independent.

Thank you for the advice all. I told them no and will change the pads myself.

While resurfacing probably should be done in many cases, I'll admit I have never done it. My rotors had only circular wear and nothing perpendicular, so I skipped it and my brakes bite just fine. My stockers lasted 72K, and I had PLENTY left in the rear.

I'm finding many auto parts places no longer do it (liability is the reason given), but $250 to resurface rotors is robbery. All new ones are under $400 OEM, and good after-market ones are even less.

Pads are really easy, I might add. Just have a small/medium diameter screwdriver to turn the rear pistons (clockwise) and a C-clamp for the fronts.

$250 is about right.. It calls for 1.8 hours to replace pads and resurface rotors. At 100/hr thats $180 in labor, Dealer list on the pads is around $60, thats $240 + tax...

I'd have to agree with the price being acurate for a dealer install and resurface. If you weren't feeling any pulsations. On braking at highway speeds, you probably don't need a rotor resurface. Pads installed should run you anywhere from $89 installed to $179 depending on pads and guarantees.
