Brake Pad Difference?
Hi,
I just got my R4S pads (AP829)in and tried to install them last night. I found that the rears fit but the fronts don't. The ears on the pads are to large and don't fit in the brackets. Has anyone experienced this?
I have a 06 did they change the pads for the 06's? Has anyone changed there 06 pads?
Is there a difference in pads from AP1-AP2?

Typically you may need to do a little grinding or filing to make the pad ears fit in the caliper slots. Just grind/file enough off to make sure the pads are able to slide freely in the slots and you'll be good. I've had to do this with one set of R4S and did NOT have to do the "customization" with one set.
PS: Make sure the raised buttons on the back of rear pads are aligned correctly with grooves in the calipers.

829 is the right number for the fronts (537 is the number for the rears). Sounds like the R4S may be not built to the correct design or else has lousy tolerances.

No, typically you do NOT have to do that. All S2000 years use the same brake pads (except the compounds are different for AP1 and AP2 OEM pads).

I was thinking, could they have boxed the wrong pads? The pads look a little bigger too. Of course there are no cat # on the pad so no way to tell.
Are you sure that there is no difference in pads for all the years of the S2000?
I got the AP365 for the rears and those work.

There should be no signifigant grinding done at all. If it's twice as big, you have the wrong pad. They should look identical by eye.
What gloffer means is some pads come with a little too much paint or powder coat and they don't fit in the slots. Small filing is ok to make these fit, as it is important that they are not tight in the caliper brakcet.

So, it's common to have to mod the pads? I had to trim a 1/16th of an inch off the width of the pads for my civic when it had SI calipers. I was trying to figure out if I had the wrong pads or something was bent. It was several different brands of pads too. I was pretty puzzled.
It's got Acura Legend brakes now and the pads just slip into place.
