Default brass cover by battery

Whats this brass cover by the battery I think it covers some electrical connections. I think ive seen a few people run without this part. Dose it do anything important other than look all brassy?

It's not brass, it's steel.

It's not a cover.

That entire box is the control unit for the EPS (electronic power steering)

If you've seen someone without it, it's because they have done a wire tuck job and hidden it behind the fender.

Wire tucks are not my thing at all. One must be extremely carful with chafing wires. I've already did a major repair on a tucked car that caught fire because of it.

Thanks billman I saw like a european model and it looked different. Owell thanks for the response. Wire tucks would be for a show type car paying no attention to functionality it dose look cool though

Some euro models have the eps unit on the other side of the engine bay.
