Broke off a bolt in the head
Thanks guys, I just bought a little hand tap and an extractor bit that fits it. As for getting a hole in the bolt, still stumped. Anyone know if the VTEC solenoid mounting holes go all the way through the head? Then I could just take the valve cover and cams off. Anywho, it's Friday... Time to not be worried about it and drink some beer.
Wow, sorry to hear that happen. Just took a look at the S2000 service manual. The bolts that you are referring to require about 9lb-ft of torque to tighten. This is a good reminder for everyone not to over tighten anything.
As far as removing the broken bolt, the extractors mentioned in the previous posts are the most typical method I know of, but judging from the location and angle that you have to drill from, it's not going to be that easy. Be sure to use cutting fluid, such as Tap Magic to make drilling easier, use a spring loaded center punch to place a dimple on top of the broken stud as close to the center as possible, and try to drill through the axis of the bolt; easy with a drill press or a vertical milling machine, but a hand drill is difficult.
Friends and my self attempted to extract broken exhaust manifold studs from a 4G63 some years back, not fun at all. The worst case scenario is breaking a drill bit into the broken stud. Since you can't drill a drill bit, that stud is stuck there forever. I could imagine he could remove the head, take it to a machine shop with a plunge EDM machine and have a hole EDMed through through the broken stud with the drill bit, but thats a lot of time and money
