broken LSD
I'm throwing this up for a friend.
so quick description of the situation
After a very hot track day on R compound tires and his fastest times in the car his lsd started making grinding noises and started "slipping"
the car is fine for street duty but track driving is a big no go at the moment
so after a lot of reading, we've yet to find a solid answer
what exactly needs to be replaced? / what is known to break in the ap1 diffs?
am I correct in thinking he can't just get away with buying a new diff, he needs a housing or other parts in general?

The factory LSD is a none serviceable part it is sold as a unit. The cost of a replacement factory LSD is as expensive as a quality clutch type that would be a better replacement.
Does the rear grind on turns, going straight or both? If the car grinds going forward/straight then, it may not be the LSD but, the gears or CV axle.

If your friend plans to race the car that hard it maybe a good idea to look into a better LSD.
