broken motor mounts
hi folks,
I was involved in a very light front end collision (glancing blow on the driver front corner, perpedicular to the car)
The aprons are out of alignment (zero gap between the hood on the driver side, approx 3/8" on the passenger side).
The headlight took most of the hit - pushing on the driverside apron.
bumper cover and a small bracket on the driver side under the headlight were also damaged.
Here is the weird part: Both motor mounts are broken.
Does this sound strange?
Here is one other consideration:
The car is a MY2000, with only 16k miles on it. The car was originally a Chicago car, but spent most of it's life in a garage.
Could the accident alone caused this in your opinion? (underlying question: are the motor mounts that fragile?)
Could the age of the car (6 years) and the fact that the mounts were "not used much" (low miles) and the fact that the car was is a freezing garage alot have added to there condition?
Thanks
BTW, SEARCH HAS BEEN DOWN FOR DAYS NOW.

It is not unusual for motor mounts to break when they are stressed in an unusual direction. IMO, the storage and low use of the car did not contribute to their failure - it's a direct result of the forces encountered in the accident.
first which part of the mount broke as there is the actual metal bracket or the rubber part with the bolts?
I do know cars like vw audi ect when you get in a bad front end crash the motor drops. No sure if honda uses this aswell.

It was the rubber part of both mounts. The fluid leaked out of them. I was not aware(until then) that they were fluid filled mounts.
And yes, the motor is resting on the frame. BIG vibration - esp at idle.

Yea no shit omg lol do not drive it...
I would jack up the motor so your not straining your tranny mounts..

Seriously, I drove it home and had it towed to a shop.
All of the fluid filled mounts are subject to leaking. I have seen several differential mounts leak due to a crack allowing the fluid to run out. This is probably the same type of problem with the accident stressing them enough to cause the leaks. I am curious if the fluid that resides in the motor mounts is red in color? The differential mounts contain red fluid.
