Why would you remove a filter that is designed to separate liquid out from the air flow? I know that filters for larger catch cans (non compressor air filters) have been made from steel wool.

How do you know this?
your right i dont know how much a pcv can suck up.. but if the pcv failed and sucked in large amounts of oil.. the pcv can be test if billman still has the part..
if the pcv sucked oil in .. all the cylinders would have oil soaked pistons..
if the pcv sucked oil in over time.. and entered all the cylinders but was able to keep burning it off. .but over time it fouled out 1 and 2 plugs causing it to build oil over time to cause the hydro lock.. than the CEL would have came on and having two dead cylinders.. the driver should know right way something is wrong with a blinking CEL now but this is just based on what billman posted.. need more info tho

ps didnt know this was from 2007 lol
interesting post tho

Good call red mx5. I missed that too.
I find it hard to accept the oil compression lock when the bearings in the rods were flawless. Usually with compression lock or even detonation, these bearings are scarred.

Sure, the f20c pvc sucks oil and if the oil is overfilled, it will probably sucked more. How much more? It's hard to say but to blame that's enough to cause compression lock without any bearing failure is a bit weak.

Bill is a very good mechanic. I hope he will chime in with more pics to clear the confusion.

glad to get in on this one a year later. not buying the oil thing. how many miles on the engine? rod - maybe over rev'ed (mis shift) and floated valve. or just too much high revs on a high mileage engine.

Oil hydrolock

Don't overfill, it's that simple

No cylinder scoring

No bearing damage

combustion chambers soaked with oil

This was a low mileage car, and the guys is a great driver. It is what it is! I've torn the engine down completely over a year ago.

It may have been close to 7 quarts total. Hard to say since it had a hole in the block.

seven quarts, holy hell! Why would he have overfilled nearly two quarts?
