Default building my motor.

Hey guys, I'm kind of new hear, this is my second s2000 but I love them, there my favorite car in the world! So here I am with my second s2k!

Anyway onto my story, I picked up the car with no compression in cylinders 3 & 4 and extremely low compression in 1 &2. So I pulled the head off to start. Ends up it had a broken exhaust valve in the #4 cylinder on the back exhaust valve. Also the valve guides had .003'' of play beyond there limit which is .0001"!!! that would explain the compression loss! lol!! I proceeded to order all new valves, guides, springs, keepers, retainers and seals (Intake & Exhaust). Then I sent the head to my best machine shop (I'm a mechanic on Import cars). I then ordered a top gasket set, all the water hoses, a thermostat, radiator, water pump and 2 tubes of Honda Bond (the bottom gasket set more or less haha). I also found out tonight that I need to change the rod bearings because he drove it with way miss matched compression for so long (30K!) it beat all the rod bearings up. Got lucky that the crank and mains are okay though!. Anyway here are a bunch of pictures of the car and the motor so far. I'll post updates as I get more info/pictures for you guys

The head is off at work right before the customer sold me the car

Just got the car home and ready to work on it here.

Getting that damn harmonic ballancer bolt loose was apain on this car!!! It took 2 of us!

that oil cast aluminum oil pump/pickup looks expensive like everything else on this damn motor!

Beautiful!

timing chain cover off

oil pan with scraper plate off

oil pump off for the chain replacement and to inspect the rod bearings

the rod caps look nasty!!

new oil pump chain ready to be installed

waiting on the other guide from honda, got one installed though

In this picture you can see the small puncture in the cat from the piece of the exhaust valve!!

EDIT: August 7th 2:36AM

I forgot to post the pictures of whats left of my exhaust valve, haha!

Interesting. So are you putting it back to stock, or are you doing any modifications/upgrades while you're in there?

I figured you guys would enjoy this project along with me so I'll keep everyone up to date.

mxt77 - I'm putting it back to stock, I like how ballanced the S2K is on a track with stock equip.

Ill post pictures of the rod bearings shortly.

keep in mind honda rod bearings have a silverish coating, not that dark color. not to mention that they were out of spec, max clearance was .0024" they were .0036'' and new clearance is .0012"

here they are: in order left to right, 1-4

Thanks! The wear on mine is similar:

I haven't been able to check the clearances, but I figured that since I knew the motor had been starved of oil and they looked worn, I should replace them.
