i know when i'm going WOT i have a cloud of smoke coming from my exhaust too. a quart every 900 does sound excessive, but not unheard of. i burn a quart every 5000. maybe try a new oil. i've had great results with amsoil.

yea, i guess i can try a new oil, i just hope its not something with the piston rings, or head gasket. if its a blown/cracked headgasket, id be overheating right?

i just got my ap1 s2k in Feb 2008. its an 03 w/ the 9k redline. i'm using pennzoil platinum 10w-30 and i've changed the oil 2 times since i bought the car. i find that i'm burning about 1 to 1.5 quarts approx. every 1000-1500 miles. i drive about twice as much as the normal person. i'm adding about 1-2 quarts between oil changes to keep it filled at least midway between the "L & H" symbols on the stick.

no oil leaks, haven't had a compression test or valve adjustments. i've accepted that burning oil in this car is a fact of ownership and have stocked up on oil accordingly.

if you're really concerned take it to a shop and have it tested. thats the only way you'll ever know "for sure" if there's something wrong.

OR

you can just live w/ it like many others do.

i burn 1 quart every 2 weeks, or about 800 miles.

i use amsoil.

my compression and leakdown are fine.

krank vents put my consumption at ZERO, but i hate the clucking sound at idle, and i don't like the idea of such a vacuum pulling at the rubber seals.

so...here i am.

any experts in here...should i consider 10w40 to help the oil consumption problem?

You might try this as an experiment. At your next add oil time , use a quart of 10/40. I'm assuming your present wt. to be 10/30. Important to use the exact same brand that is in the car now. The added oil weight could slightly slow oil leaking past the rings. Since this is theory only, one quart may not be enough to make any difference but it can't hurt.If your changing oil, you might try two qts. or more added to the 10/30.
This experiment will do nothing to fix any problems the car may have, but it might prolong the useful life of your engine before you have no choice except to replace the rings. GL

00-01 usually have scorched walls on cyl 1 or 2 due to the lack of lubrication during high revvs. If you notice the banjo bolts for lube in the older models compared to the newer models they have 4 ports compared to two ports for oil to pass through. This causes wear and tear on the cylinder walls allowing oil to pass through. Sure you can do a dry or wet compression test but thats not really going to matter because oil is constantly seeping through the bad cylinder walls. This is due to the fact that the oil is sealing up the small scorches along the wall which allows oil to be burned in the chambers.

I had a 00 before and it didnt burn but maybe a 1/4 of a quart every oil change - absolutely normal wear and tear issue

I had a 04 before and it didnt burn any oil at all or nothing significant that i can see. - normal

I now have a 06 and it doesnt burn oil except now since its boosted - normal

Possibilities of oil burning problems could be:
Bad PCV
Bad valve seals
Bad piston Rings or turned ring
Bad cylinder walls

Of course this is speaking logics and is what a mechanic would actually go through to check.

can you change the banjo bolts with the motor in the car? maybe from the oil pan being dropped?
