Default Burning Oil - Silver 2000

Whilst driving home Eastbound on the 91 freeway this afternoon I happened across a silver S2000. Because traffic was so slow I had a chance to talk to the driver. He said that it's a 2000 with 12,000 miles and that it has burned 4 quarts of oil during the last 1,000 miles.

I suggested that he look here for some insight. I hope that he understood "s-2-k-i" over the traffic noise.

In any case, if anyone has any ideas please post them. And if you come across another thread on this subject from a newbie, please tell him that he met "magician" on the freeway.

Thanks!

4 quarts of oil in 1000 mi? must be some serious leakage. some kind of gasket is blown. head gasket?

Either he has a big leak or some serious blue smoke behind him.

doesn't sound that bad actually. it all depends when the first oil change was and what he changed it with. I still firmly believe that if you change to synth too soon, there will be lack of friction which creates a better seal between the piston rings and the sleeves.

nope, I actually mean just the opposite. change later. too early, the seal will not be met and you will still be burning oil.
