A/C is not cool enough?
Hello any A/C expert out there?
Before i take my car in to inspect the A/C i don't want to get ripped off lol so expert help from the forum can saved me tons of money.
thank you before hand.
I just move from colder state and never use a/c because its cool all year round, now i just move to North Carolina and its hot as F**K. I turn on the A/C for the first time and it seems like its not cool enough.
It works but its not as cold as it should be. I even turn it all the way up full blown still the same.
My old civic a/c is even cooler. what do you guys think the problem is?
I have an 04 s2k.

did you turn on the recirculation??? usually that makes the a/c colder...if after that it doesnt work you might need some freon. you can prolly go to wal mart and get those rechargable cans if it comes to that.
If you need refrigerant then you have a leak in the system somewhere and that should be addressed, not just filling the system. The A/C system is a closed system so should not need a refill, unless there is a leak or work was done and it wasnt properly recharged.
There can be more issues ie. stuck.sticking heater valve or improper adjustment, clogged evaporator limiting flow, slipping belt, sticking flap doors etc. Im not saying that there is not a leak but have it properly checked and not just refilled. A dealer or any proper tech SHOULD be able to hook up the gauges and quickly tell you the condition of the system.
And also remember the air blows colder on about 2-3 fan speed vs full blast !

I wouldn't count my AC as very cold either. Just cool enough to keep things comfortable. I assumed it was just a natural thing with S2000's.
Some advise I got several years ago urged automobile owners to periodically operate the AC during the winter months to keep parts "free" and freon circulating. Perhaps lack of use in your previous northern clime is now showing itself. Of course this is just a guess and may mave little or nothing to do with your problem. GL

Thanks for the advices guys.
Update to your questions.....
No i havent turn on my a/c for at least longer than 1 year and plus i don't ever use a/c due to colder climate area. Crap!!!.
And yes redi-ap1 i learn on my own that put fan speed to 2-3 is cooler than at full blast. thank you .

put a thermometer in your center vent and take the reading at full cold.
~40 degrees F means the system is ok and it's just you not "feeling" that it's not cold enough.
if this is the case and you're willing to pay to have it cooler, there are some tricks that might work in getting the system to blow cooler. search and ask around for mechanics that are heavily experienced with A/C that might know of these tricks. it's not something i would recomend as a DIY
if it's above 40 degrees then you probably have a problem in the system that we can't help you diagnose based on "it's not cool enough".
summer is coming so a lot of shops will probably start advertising "free A/C performance check". take advantage of it if you see one and have a professional check the basics of the operating system.

Not running the system can dry out all the seals. During operation it pumps oil through the entire system. O-rings, and the compressor seals can get damaged. You should run it at least once a month for 10min to lubricate everything. There are a few valves and filters too that may be the cause. Check the temperature as said above. If it's low, have a vacuum test pulled on it. That will tell you if it's a venting problem, or internal damage. If you run the AC to defrost your windows, that counts as running it.
