In the UK my calliper failure claim under warranty has been rejected by Honda. Reasons: (a) painted the calliper yellow; (b) fitted Goodridge hoses;

I think your thinking is right along Honda's line and I can't say I blame them. I just bought the heavily Mugenized car from a board member here in the UK. I don't really know the history of the brakes but the calliper seized on test so I should have been warned + by the sight of him freeing up, bleeding and refitting. Cost of new calliper, pads and 2 rotors will be around

There was some sort of assumption made (as usual) to deny coverage. None of those things would cause a piston to seize in the caliper. In fact it seems to me that the only thing that would cause that is excessive internal wear or an over extended piston (and that would require pad removal).

I simply do not see the connection, but as I am sure you have already figured out, you have no practical recourse so you have to accept the decision.

What happened? Was there a brake failure or something they came up with in the shop?

What happened was the O/S/F calliper locked ON after gentle application. It felt like I was driving in too high a gear and the steering felt strange. Only doing 40 mph on a narrow windy country lane. 30 seconds later came a smell followed by clouds of blue smoke.

I am wondering about the effects of heat dissipation and distortion? But I cannot believe that even with beefed up hoses and non standard pads (Panther Plus) it would be enough extra heat to distort a calliper piston or bore and/or cook it dry?
