main bearing damage will kill the crank as well, so might as well check that after the rods. A lot of people say rod bearings are the first to fail, but I found out the hard way that main bearings certainly fail and I found chunks of them in the oil pan when my motor failed.

Is the front cam drive gear bolt tight? 8mm allen bolt.
I just checked and yes it is quite tight. All the cam gears look healthy.
