There is two cam gears and one drive gear that the chain rides on. What do you mean, not lined up? When the crank is top Dead Center, the drive gear's marks should be level with the head. The Cam gears marks should be level with each other. If it is off, you have to get it fixed.

So has the head or cams ever been off of the car?

I think he's referring to the cam gears themselves... they are a split/two-piece design and have some sort of spring that keeps them aligned. By "not lined up", I'm assuming that he means the two pieces are no longer "in sync", so the front part of the gear is misaligned with the back part.

Here's a pic for reference:

Not sure how they are connected exactly, or how they could become disconnected.

yes exactly. the camgears look like there are two connected to each other. the smaller back part of the gear teeth do not align with the front half teeth. can a machine shop straighten this out?

There's nothing to straighten out. The back part and the front part are supposed to be misaligned, that's how the gear dampens itself.

Unless the one tooth is sitting dead in the middle of two teeth, then the gear is junk.

it looks like someone twisted it a little, and they are a few mm off. the teeth dont line up on the cam gear. The only reason i'm asking if a machine shop can fix it, is because i'm over seas, and it takes 2 to 3 weeks before i can get anything here. sux only having one s2000 on the island. I have to order everything from either japan or the US. and it takes forever

Any pictures?
The way I understand it, is that the cam gear "straightens" itself out when it is "in gear" with the idler gear/cam chain sprocket.
Does your cam gear doesn't do that?

I'm confused... from the pic, you can see that mine are properly aligned up there.... even when I had them out, they were still aligned just like that.
