can this cause damage...
So I figured out when I first got my s2k, that the oil temp needs to have 3 bars before the engine will go into vtec (this is somewhat correct I assume) I thought something terrible was wrong with my car the first time this happened to me. I went to pull out of my driveway and as soon as my rpm's hit vtec range, it was like my engine hit a brick wall and my car just jerked back real hard.
Its been quite a few months since that happened. I am now hearing a clicking or rattling noise coming from my engine.. Similar to the noise you hear for a few moments when you start your car on a cold morning. Except that this noise happens even when the engine is warm. It doesnt do it 100% of the time, but enough to make me feel worried that somewhere down the way, I bent/broke something, and I really dont know where to start.

lol it's coolant temp, not oil temp.
You didn't mess anything up by hitting the cold limiter. The reason the cold limiter is there is to prevent you from messing anything up.
Maybe your engine needs a valve adjustment. Have the retainers inspected. AP1 retainers have been known to crack over time/abuse. You can replace them with AP2 retainers or aftermarket ones.
Your timing chain tensioner may also be worn.
I really doubt it's anything serious. But check your oil level just to be safe.

You are fortunate that is all that is wrong. I can't understand why anyone would want to run a cold engine to 8000 rpm...Perhaps I am missing something here. I assume the "cpl" has a military correlation with corporal? We had a term for doing something like you described--"lack of headspace and timing."
Good luck fixing your car.

And I didnt want to redline the car. I just got it, was inexperienced with it, and was showing it to a friend.
"Does this thing pull pretty hard?"
"Yeah check it out!"

Theres a video that mark355 posted in another thread. Mine sounds the exact same except that mine is more intermittent than this. The solution in the other thread seemed to be to change to mobile 1. I just changed oil about 1k miles ago and im using mobile 1.
thanks for the tips though.

JFUSION, why do you say that? I've never heard a noise like that from a torn S2k mount.
CKit has a good point- low oil level will cause that. You shouldn't let it get below the F mark. Be sure to check when the engine is cold, and check both sides of the stick. The S is notoriously difficult to get a good reading off of.
cpl_allen, the timing chain tensioner is mounted towards the front of the motor on the exhaust side of the head. If you can turn a wrench it's pretty easy to swap out. If the tensioner is the source of the noise then you can replace it or try the "sanding" trick that some people have had luck with.
It sounds like you should have someone with experience with the S that's local to you listen to it and/or help you out.
