its a ring and pinion gear for the rear end, which changes the final drive ratio in the car - doesn't change anything inside the transmission, only in the differential housing.

our stock piece is a ratio of 4.1 and this is a ratio of 4.44.

cost is $920 delivered to your door.

xviper has some good information on performance gains and installation as well. but I do not recommend self installation of the gears unless you have the proper equipment and have done this before. cost of instllation should be around $350, or at least no more than that.

to add, it will give you faster acceleration, more pull at low rpm's, but maybe a sacrifice of some top speed MPH.

Is it feasible to swap to a J's Racing 4.44 rear gear AND add a supercharger? How about a turbo with the 4.44?

Would this make you idle higher ? What would the disadvantages be ? less mpg ?

this is in the rear end, so it doesn't effect anything regarding idle. when idling your transmission does not engage the rear end, which is where the gear is, so not effected.

yes, it will clip a few miles per gallon.

trust me, it will affect accelleration. you'll go through gears faster and reach the top speed quicker (although that's clipped a little as well)

It's like going to a bigger sprocket on the back wheel of your bicycle. The gears that your pedals are attached to (equivalent to your car's tranny) do not change (ie. not affected) but you can pedal easier and thus get going quicker.
