Car Died when i was driving..
Well recently I changed out the alternator and had the battery recharged. I was driving two days fine until today. I was on the service road on the way home when it died. I couldn't even turn on my hazards. so I pushed it to the nearest gas station. I had the alternator tested and the diodes were bad? and i took out the battery and left it at autozone to be recharged. An hour later I went to get the battery and the guy told me It was bad and all the cells were drained out? He opened and showed me no water was inside the battery. Even though it was a year old can it go bad like that? So i bought a new yellow top and put it in and im now waiting for the new alternator. So was i being haggled or can a battery drain till it cant be recharged? and if the car died as I was driving does that mean the alternator does not work at all or a little bit?
I just replaced my battery that was 14 months old, car left me stranded and I thought it was my alternator. I towed the car home, car would not jump start so I had a buddy come over and we put his battery out of his Integra into the s2000 and it started right up. I disconnected the battery while the car was running to see if my alternator was bad. Car ran with the battery disconnected so I knew my battery was done. I got a new battery for nearly free since it was just outside of the 1 yr warrenty. And the car starts better than before and my dash doesnt flicker any more. Here in Arizona battery life expectancy is just about a year due to the heat. My S is a 2004 with just over 86k. I've replaced the battery twice since I have owned the car, bought it in 08.

Like I posted in the dfw thread, check voltage even w/ a "refurb" alternator.

Alternators fail in 1 of 2 modes:
1. No output, which will cause your battery to drain (not recharge). New Alternator and recharge the battery. Indicators are lights flickering, dash flickering, headlights get dim..
2. Too much voltage, which will literally cook your battery and boil the acid/water out of your battery. This is the voltage regulator dying (diodes), and this unit can be replaced on some cars--don't know about S2000's. This failure you need a new battery too.
BTW, I'd suggest you take some baking powder? (Arm & Hammer), mix it with water to make a 'gravy', and apply liberally to all the metal and components around your battery. Try to do the underside of your hood too. Then rinse well!! This will neutralize the sulfuric acid fumes that your battery vented when it was over charged--You won't see the damage immediately. By the time you notice something, it'll be too late, so do it NOW!!
