Default Car moving to left and right

Hey all... I read through all the stickies to make sure that this was the right place to post this. Here's what my dad wrote up about his problem (he's the one with the car I want, after all).

Have a 2001 S2000 with about 48K miles on it. Just got new tires for it (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S). The tires are factory spec size and inflated to 32psi. The car was just aligned, the tires roll smooth at speed. Here is the problem: when I am accelerating, it seems that the rear end pushes to the right causing the car to track left and I have to offset that with a steering correction to the right. On deceleration, just the opposite happens. The car seems to push right and seems to get squirrelly.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Any and all help is appreciated.

I have posted on several threads just like this one and is becoming more common to hear this - Normally you just hear about this with new rears and old fronts but New tires have a break in period apparently with this car! At least that is my experience. I had to put on a few hundred miles before my tires felt planted again - The car feels squirelly and gets off track very easily right? I remember driving on the highway and constantly having to make steering wheel inputs where normally it tracks straight. Give it a little time and it will settle in.

EVERY time I've seen somebody post this problem, it has been a tire pressure issue. I expect that the rear left is lower than the rear right.

No, he said his dad said the tires are inflated to 32 psi. What we are saying is, "check again".

Just another thought, it also could be pulling from one wheel only. If something broke in the differential, the limited slip etc. it would cause the same effect you described. If the pressures don't solve it, and the tires are correctly mounted (directional tires mounted backwards) etc. Then that would be my best guess.

Try:
34 PSI Rear
32 PSI Front

Definitely check the pressures again. I had the same symptoms happen to me going to lunch last week. When I got to the eatery I checked the rear pressures and sure enough driver side was 19-20lbs. After further inspection I find a nail right in the middle of my tread

My bet, rims. The rear RIMS not tires but RIMS are wider than the front rims, now while they may all be able to handle the different sizes of tires, it'll cause one to grip better than the other. Pull off two of the rims and double check their width.
