Default Car Pops when Idling

When i Start my car. its idles then makes a popping noise. Sounds as if its coming from the exhaust. When i drive in 1st gear and step about on the gas hard. its bog around 2-3 k then its smooth afterward. When im driving lets say 35mpg and i put it in 5th gear and floor it, it bogs pretty hard too, I did the same to my friends s2000 and it didn't do that.
I just changed out the cat to a test pipe and it didn't solve it. I added Injector cleaner to.
Changed out the Plugs too oem. The coil packs were good. What do you think it could be?

bad injector?
Ignition Coil?
Bad retainers?

How can you tell if any of the above are bad?

do you have a video at all that you can post up??

i knot a bad coil would cause a misfire and that would make the car run like a wrx and feel super slow.

i bad injector wouldnt pop i dont think because you wouldnt be getting enough fuel to push extra fuel through the motor to combust giving you a pop.

bad retainers would drop a valve causing one to be bent/drop... it wouldnt be drivable.

dropped valve would not be drivable at all.

im just throwing a few ideas out there.

you're misfiring it seems like. Do u have any CEL's? I just performed a search on the threads that you've created in the past. Seems like you've been having problems with this car. If i were you, to have a piece of mind about the engine of your vehicle, i would suggest you do a compression test and leak down test. Do those then based on the results you can work your way from there. GL

First thing I would do is a proper valve adjustment. popping is due to tight valves, or a bent valve. Of course, inspect retainers. In my experience, broken retainers show no symptoms. Even when they are really bad, where the retainer is scraping on the roller and grinding away the cam, no symptoms at all. Not even the slightest noise.

Tight valves will only be found if a VA was done and someone did it wrong.

Yes yes....in an engine that runs, compression test may not show much. However, leakdown test will instantly reveal the problem, if it is a bent valve.
