i was going to drive my car this morning but it would start.
it will crank but not start up. everything lights up, headlights, instrument cluster , dome light , radio etc. no blinking or dimming either. battery is brand new. i checked the plugs and theyre good. i tried using some starter fluid, which did get it to start up for a second the immediately die. fuel pump works, i can hear the whine. so this leads me to believe its an injector issue, which ive had in the past but not like this.
my car is a my00 w/ a my02 motor with approx 50k on it.

anyone got any ideas? switch out the injectors? something else?

also a side note, i noticed when i was checking fuses i have an 80 amp battery fuse instead of a 100 amp! this would explain why my last battery died.

 

Interesting that that caused your battery to fail.

 

HAve you recently dumped injector cleaners into the tank? If you did, it sometimes causes crap to come loose along the lines and plug up the injectors.

Try removing the spark plugs, cranking the car, then check for fuel smell? If you dont have fuel to all four cyl thats your problem. Its most likely injector/fuel filter since it started with the starter fluid.

 

nah i havent used any injector cleaner. when i checked the plugs 3 had fuel on them. one didnt. about the 80amp fuse causing the batt to fail im not sure but i figure that could have caused it to.

 

The fuse wouldnt cause it to fail..unless its blown.

 

plugs may be fouled now. Get a new set and see what happens

How cold has it been in Bangor? You might have water in your fuel, which has frozen in a fuel line. If it's been below freezing, put the car in a garage, try to heat the area up to above freezing for a few hours and then try starting it. A fuse will not cause a battery to die: It protects the car (and battery) from excessive current draw. If anything, your battery/car are more protected w/an 80 amp fuse, as long as it doesn't blow..

 

If it's cranking, the battery and starter are good. The problem is either fuel or spark. Since the car momentarily started with starter fuel, the problem must be fuel.
