I have an '03 S2000 with a Vortech SC kit on it and 36k miles. I also have an ACT clutch. I had the stock 3 year 36k mile warranty. I went into the dealer for a growling noise I mistook to be my clutch/transmission. I was very nice and a mechanic came out to take the car for a quick spin. He heard the noise, I handed the keys off to him and told him to take his time and I would understand if there was nothing he could do.

About 4 hours later I got a call back saying the car was finished. I get back and the mechanic throws me the keys and the chick at the front desk asks me to sign the receipt. I take a quick look to see what the damage is...

"Internal rattling within catalytic converter. Covered under 8 years or 80,000 miles."

Needless to say I was stunned and thanked the guy again. I went on my way in a nicer sounding, even faster S2000.

Interesting. I'm amazed they covered it under warranty with the SC. Might be worth calling the dealership after all...

best options would be either buy a used cat from another member (several on here) OR get a UR hi-flow cat (looks identical to the OEM one).

It's worth a shot. Not only did I get the cat for free, they gave me the springs, nuts, bolts, and labor under warranty.

After doing some research, environmental protection laws require all S2000 catalytic converters to have an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty. I think if you approach the service center the right way you could get it from them free.

What I would do is call some of your local Honda dealers first and explain your sitaution. Be upfront and tell them the situation your in. Find the one that will play ball and your good to go. Remember, dealers get paid from manufacturers to do warranty work. The auto biz is in a huge rut right now. I think they should take all they could get. The only thing that may stop them is the fact that they would have to send the "dead cat" back to Honda, where it may be examined and the claim may be denied. By that time you would already be in the clear, beacuse you are done and gone. Not your fault if Honda doesnt pay the dealer.
