CEL, code read: P0497
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. It would be greatly appreciated.
I don't put many miles on my S2000. It sits for days at a time. I've had it for almost 3 years without a problem.
A few weeks ago I needed to wash the car so I started it up, drove it about 50 yards, and shut it down. I don't normally do this. I usually drive it at least 10 miles at a time at the least. Anyway, I washed the car and then dried it. Then I started it up, drove it back 50 yards, and shut it off.
The car sat for a few days after that. The next time I was able to drive it, I drove it for 20 miles without a problem.
A week later I was driving the car and the Check Engine Light came on about 2-3 miles into my trip. I turned around and brought the car back. I shut it off and let it sit again. I plugged in a code reader and pulled "P0497 EVAP Emission System Low Purge Flow" as the error code.
I cleared the code and let the car sit. I drove it a few times after that without incident.
Last week the CEL came on again. Plugged in the code reader and pulled the same P0497 code. Now I'm positive that something is wrong, but I have no idea what to do about it. I checked the engine compartment for loose/crimped hoses, but everything looks ok to me.
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

It's not the cap.....that's a complex code.
I would start with the electrical connector for the evap purge valve.
Find the throttle cable, and the two adjuster nuts on it. From there, look straight down into the engine compartment. you will see the connector with a red and a green wire.
Unplug it and clean it with WD40

Bump. I got this same code P0497.
History: Ran over deer carcass. Noticed that a black shield on the driver's side, on the side and a bit forward of the rear axle was banged up quite a bit. I bent the bracket holding it back into place, but the shield was partially shattered.
Other symptom: After car is fully warmed up, it makes a pattering sound at idle, and it seems the sound is coming from the rear end of the car. Sound goes away when revved and it takes a few seconds of idle to come back. Definitely not a normal sound. Otherwise, the car drives fine.
Cleared the code and also tried unplugging/plugging connector back in. The code hasn't come back yet, but the noise is still there. Ideas?

Just took mine to the dealership with the same code.
They say the evap vent shut valve is not holding a vacuum. They won't have the part til tomorrow.
118 for the diagnostic
and
335 for parts and labor tomorrow
Sucks, but I don't know anything about fuel systems, so I may as well let the pro's handle it.

Figured I'd close the loop with this other thread since they both end up at the same issue and troubleshooting

well, rather than just be a taker and not a giver and in the interest of keeping the thread going since @Billman250 was kind enough to start this in the first place...
I had that nagging P0497 come back...the other code never did but this one did...yesterday from a stop light in the heat of the FL afternoon, I also had some serious
bogging that I used to think was heatsoak...but couple that with the occasional smell of gas and relatively poor gas mileage (200 to 240 to a tank)...
Anyway, re-read this thread and a few others and decided to dig a little deeper...
I checked all 3 solenoids with a little ho made set of wires and a 9v battery...click click click on every one. I ran carb cleaner
through pretty much all of them and blew them out. The one under the car on the more complex set of vaccum and evap lines with
2 connectors definitely held a vacuum as I heard it as I pulled the lines off.
sprayed out with carb cleaner and blew out, some junk actually came out...there was sand and debris surrounding the o-ring as well
here was my makeshift test for click...to see if the solenoids were actuating...all 3 of mine were...engine bay and 2 under the car.
I added a bit of this electrical connector corrosion inhibitor
the first one I tested I got about 28Ohms but since I didn't know what Ohm load I was supposed to be getting on each I moved on.
