Default CEL on, got code, CEL off...

So as stated in the title..

I got a CEL, went and had it pulled, it was P1457, which looking on the sticky is "EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)." Before anyone says anything, thats NOT the gas cap.

Anway, guy at the service dept. said I should get it looked at but I shouldn't worry about driving on it for a few days. I was going to call and get it looked at today, annnd .. after being on now for about a week, it suddenly turned off when I went to get lunch.

So, question is, should I have it looked at or not? Do you think its likely to just come back on again soon?

Thanks in advance for input...

That code is pretty easy to fix. It's one of your solenoids, a vacuum line or your evap canister. I replaced the solenoids myself only to find out it was the evap canister.

When i had that on my accord, i never got to fixing it. It would come on and go away.

But the problem got worse. I could smell gasoline from standing next to the car. It got pretty bad for me. I had about 100K+ miles on the car.

I wouldn't call this a "easy" DTC to repair. Many things can cause it, and it's not a very easy to understand system.

Best to find someone at a local shop that has some experience with Hondas.

Those codes from my experience really only start your process of elimination to fix the real problem. It gives you a place to start your diagnosis. It is best to have a technician tell you what is wrong vs. swapping parts until you fix the right one.

so update, its been around 24 hours and about 3 or 4 trips later, and the light is still off.

should i assume the problem miraculously fixed itself or that it never existed, or should i go have someone look at it?

Not necessarily fixed. If the trips were not long enough or the monitor enable criteria wasn't met monitor won't run.

Only way to be sure it's working is to verify that all the readiness codes have passed.
