Default CEL Help

hey guys,

i have an 2006 S in which i having some issues with a cel.

so i recently needed to get my car past emissions. (which i eventually did) however its been quite the process.

i had a cel, which was for an ECT sensor, which i was quite surprised being that my car only has approx 50k miles on it. so i thoroughly and grudgingly checked the harness etc to make sure it wasnt an issue with the harness itself. i didnt find anything so i went ahead and replaced the ECT sensor, the cel went away.

i take my car to DEQ the next day, as i am waiting in line, i get a CEL again, upset, i drive back home, pull the code, and this time it shows i have an issue with my thermostat. code P0128 "thermostat function", i clear the CEL, hoping it is a one time blip, drive to DEQ again the next day and pass.

today driving now for the 3rd day since passing DEQ the CEL comes on again for the same code. which leads me to, i have a spoon thermostat in my car, any of the 06+ guys have any issues using aftermarket thermostats? before pulling it and putting back in a stock one, i wanted to try to gather as much info as possible.

thanks!

If it's a lower temp thermostat, that could be causing it. Also if it gets stuck open (or partially open) it will throw this code as well. How long have you had the thermostat in there? Was it used when you bought it?

its a low temp spoon thermo. i have had it in there for awhile, but didnt get the thermo cel until i fixed my ect sensor. i dont believe it is stuck open because the car is still warming up in the same manner it normally would. i guess the possibility is there that is may be partially getting stuck.

just looking for any 06+ guys that have installed an after market low temp thermo that can speak from their own experiences.

thanks for the insight.
