CEL - Speedo reading zero
Driving home from work today, travelling slowly behind traffic and ran over some rough patches of road. CEL came on and speedo dropped to zero. Steering lightened up noticeably, presumably because the power steering thinks the car is stationary. The tach still works and the engine feels fine, except at idle where it pulses slightly between 400-800rpm, but doesn't stall.
Having driven on a little further the eps light came on and the power steering stopped working. At about 70kph I can make the speedo read 3 or 4, this also confirmed that the trip computer still works.
It seems to me as if this is an electrical problem, possibly a bad ground or a loose wire somewhere. I'm not great with electricals however so can't be sure. The fact that I can make the speedo read a little at higher speed suggests that the speedo cable is still connected, and I presume the sudden idle issues I'm having are something to do with limp mode.
Anyone come across this in the past? I'll probably crawl under the dash tomorrow to check the ECU and cluster cables, and the grounding wires under the hood, but would appreciate any pointers that might help me get to work on time in the morning. Cheers...
