Default Change transmission fluid or overkill

Hi, i just bought a 2005 S2000 about a week ago. It has 12,681 miles on it. The car fax reports it remain unactive for two years. (sitting on the lot). I am going in for a rear diff fluid change this weekend and just wondering if i should get a transmission fluid change also. The transmission seems fine just isnt as smooth til its really warmed up. Should i get the tranny fluid change or is it overkill. Thanks Would it hurt if i get one???

I change all my oils at the same time, every 5000 miles or so. You wanna talk about overkill!! Redline all they way around (engine, trans, diff) is around 120 bucks in Hawaii. In your case I would say change it. You don't know when the last time it was changed was, or if it was ever changed, 4 year old oil no matter what is too old in my book.

If you read your owners manual, all the fluids maintenance schedules are based on time or mileage. Having the car sit on a lot for 2 years even compounds the problem. Get all the fluids changed, including the coolant/anti-freeze. Also, check the belts and tires for cracking. Good luck and have fun with your new car!

So i should; I read the maintaince book for the s2k it didnt really mention anything if the car remain inactive to follow a certain protocol. I did oil and coolant and check the belts. My temp gauge reads at about 45% just wondering if its the same with you guys.
So I will change the transmission fluid this weekend just wondering was there a new formula of tranny fluid since then? I really have to warm the car up and run it through gears(while at idle) to get it smooth as butter or else it might grind a bit (2nd to 3rd)..this is normal right?

i would change it. if it's never been changed before, i'm sure it has break in debris in it. i usually change mine every 15k. now that i've started tracking the car i do it every 5 or 10 depending on how the shifting feels. you can kinda tell when it needs to be changed because it'll get rougher to shift

Just change it. It doesnt cost too much, doesnt take up too much time - but itll give you piece of mind.

Use the latest Honda MTL from the dealer...it is the best I've used.

Don't buy the diff oil from the dealer...they will likely give you diff oil for the CR-V, which will kill an s2k diff.

also, please read how to do this yourself as it is too easy to be paying the dealership all your money.
