Default Changing diff oil

No, I'm not about to ask "how do you change the diff fluid". I know how to use the "Search" button. However I wanted to share a little trick from today...

As we all know the clearance on the "fill" bolt is not exactly generous enough to fit a socket (even a shallow one) and the ratchet head. I've read the thread where folks get creative and cut the socket in order to find enough clearance. Well, here is another approach...

Next to socket is a socket cap. It fits like this along with a box end wrench:

Pretty nifty little device. They come in a set from Craftsman. Bag looks like this:

Sure - if you go through all this trouble why not use a 23mm wrench? Well they are kinda big and using the cap I used an 11/16 box-end, which is much easier to work with. At any rate - just another way to skin the cat.

this is a great trick, but why use it over a wrench?

I just wanted to show an alternative.

I prefer to use a socket over a wrench but that is a matter of personal taste.

I've always wanted to get a torque wrench on the fill bolt but of course there is no room for that, thus I prefer to use the 23mm wrench, with it being a decent length I can get some decent torque to loosen and tighten the bolt, it seems to snug down nicely with the longer wrench. Your tool might work nicely without having to jack up the car which is cool, I have to jack up the car to use the 23mm wrench. Thanks for posting that info.

that sucks, time to buy a new wrench, then return it for refund if you buy it from a store that allows that. Walmart ?
