Default Check engine light help

Ok so my s2k was running great until I did a valve adjustment. The car was reading misfire on cylinder 2. Checked the spark plugs and everything was good so we assumed it was the coil pack. Bought a new coil pack and this time the CEL on misfire on cylinder 2 disappeared as p1399 popped up. Did a compression test and it passed with flying colors. My buddy that did the valve adjustment rechecked the adjustment and he said this time it was all closed up. So he redid the valve adjustment and it worked again until today. So it lasted a day before it started doing it again. The car is a 04 with 69k miles. They think my valves are going bad. Any input? Wanna get my car on the road again as gas prices are skyrocketing and driving my e92 drinks gas like its water

A leakdown should be done before just assuming valves are done for.

Valves hardly ever go bad on any model s2000. Valve retainers have been known to let go on ap1s.

went to a reputable shop and they said its a really bad valve adjustment. He said my idle and everything is fine and the motor is fine. He said its just a bad valve adjust cause he can hear it not opening. I hope this is the case because i wanna spend less as i can
