Default Checking engine oil accurately

Need some help guys , I know this seems to be the most basic question but recently after buying my S and did an oil change , i checked my oil level. Somehow it seems to be inaccurate.

I took the dipstick out , clean it and put it back in.

then i took it out again and read it , it says 3/4 before reaching the max level

but after letting it sit for say 15 mins and without cleaning the stick this time ( since i did not run the engine) , i took it out and it's way above the max level.

i've never had a Inline 4 V type engine.

just want to know how u guys did it , if my words are not clear enough i hope i can snap some picture to show it end of this week.

thanks a lot

whats with the hold for 3 sec?

so my method of checking if it's been siting for a while that i clean the dip stick read it , put it back in a wait 10 mins later and pull it out again it will be inaccurate?

cause i look for sign of oil on the highest point instead of seeing a blob of actual there on the indicator

you dont need to let it sit 10 min.

put it in, pull it out keep the dipstick level so it oil doesnt run down, any sign of oil that is uniform is your reading check it 3 times and if you get the same thing every time you know that thats your reading

Did you change the oil filter? If you did, it helps to run the engine to fill the oil filter before checking the level. The level should go down, not up though. Clean oil on a shiny new S2000 dipstick can be hard to read sometimes.

i have to check the dipstick about ten times to get a decent repeatable representation of the oil level. ill top it off, pull the stick and it looks low. wipe and replace, then check again. and repeat.

Mine does that too, sometimes the level looks like its down a bit, other times its right at the top. It just has to do with when you check it. If the engine is warm or not, and which side of the dipstick you are reading.

I just don't worry about it. I've noticed that it seems to do its flucuations when its near full. But once it gets down to 1/2 qt. low, it seems pretty steady right there. So I just don't worry about the flucuations. If it does get a 1/2 qt. low, then I fill it up a 1/2 qt.

1/4 qt. low isn't going to hurt anything. Hell I knew my service manager in CA. Story time: One day driving home I'm pulling off my exit on the freeway and I see a white S2k that I'd seen before and knew it lived in my area. Well this time he is pulled off to the side with his hazards on. I pull over and ask him what is wrong. He doesn't know and well the engine quit on him and wont start back up. He already has a tow truck on the way and is getting it towed to Honda. Good day old man. About 1 week or 2 later I take my car to Honda for the clutch buzz and have them put in a ACT pressure plate and Comptech flywheel. I notice the white S2k in the back and ask what happened with it. Appearently when they drain the oil ONE quart comes out...that is it, and it is a horribly black sludgy quart at that. The guy had NEVER changed the oil nor ever bothered to check it, I'm not sure how many miles were on it, but yeah. Pretty bad. The point I'm getting to is, the F20 can run on ONE quart of oil...obviously it is horrible for the motor, but his did it for quite some time (he had no visible out side leaks). So being 1/4 qt. low is nothing to stress about.
